Your Book - Week 1 - Understanding the brief
For the first part and first week of 'Your Book' was about quickly speaking about how the weeks would pan out before moving onto presentations from our Alumni Tiana and Sabela. The presentations were about talking through their own FMP and the key parts in the creative process as well as their specialism in general. First, Tiana spoke through her FMP project 'Nobel' which was a project based on inspirational women but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it impacted her project a lot and she couldn't fully complete the series. As her situation is similar to ours, all of the points she has been making was something to take on board for our final projects this year. You can tell when looking at each photo she created, that consistency was important to keep which for her was having each woman be slightly off centre. When looking at her images, the connection to her inspiration is clear in terms of framing and position as both Jenny Lewis and the series 209 women had framed consistency.
Next, we watched Sabela's presentation about her FMP project 'I am no one' which brought poetry and photography together to not only create photography based work, but also an installation in which the audience could interact with. Each image had a meaning that aligned with her poetry and it gave the audience a sense of how to feel about identity and emotions which to me made her work a lot more interesting to look at. After her presentation, she explained that asking yourself questions at every opportunity is so important as it helps the process and researching outside of photography is just as important as researching photographers as it can help understand your project more.

Part 2 of the day was going over the brief and making notes of key points we need to take on board throughout the next 15 weeks. He first sad that this brief would be split into 3 5 week slots in which the first 5 would be research, second 5 would be practice and the last 5 would be publish. Though we may not know what is going to happen over the next few months, it is important for us to have a plan that could be done throughout either the lockdown or restrictions and that there was a plan in case we could not hand in physically. I did have an idea for this project but unfortunately due to the national lockdown, I am unable to go back to accommodation at this time which means I will need to brainstorm to think about ideas more.
